Bad Smokers

If you smoke, there’s not much I can do about it. You should quit, but its hard to do.

What I don’t understand is why all (?) smokers believe that the world is their ash tray?!?!??!?!? While driving in their car they think its perfectly fine to dispose of their cigarette butts out the window.

While driving home from my dad’s house, the same car managed to flick 2 of them at me, and a total of 5 butts hit my car on the way home.

While crossing Woodward Ave at Catalpa (aka 11.5 mile) I was standing on the sidewalk on the median/boulivard and there was a TON of cigarette butts in the grass (as people threw them out while they were waiting at the red light).

I don’t know how biodegrable cigarette butts are but I kind of doubt they disappear very quickly.

Caffeine Free Ice Tea

I love Ice Tea!

To bad my doctor told me not to have caffeine (because of my high blood pressure). Nor am I able to find any Caffeine free ice tea.

I looked at www.lipton.com and Arizona Ice Tea which are 2 very good Ice Tea companies and they both have caffeine in them.

They sell caffeine free coke and pepsi, why not caffeine free ice tea??

MS Access

Wow, I have now learned first hand why MS Access (2000) should not be used with more than ~5 people at once.

We told our testers and fixers to update their issues in our “tracking” database on the LAN, only to have the database become corrupt 4 times in one day. I learned very quickly how to rapidly back up the table we were using and export it, then delete the corrupt file and import the table back into a backup copy of the database.

Its very frustraiting to get messages “MyDatabase.mdb is not a database file”. How can that be? I’m in the database you bastard!! AHHHH.

Interesting Links

World Cyber Games – The video gaming Olympics as it seems. Seems I found out about it too late to join. Maybe next year I’ll try out.

Free wireless day. Seems Intel is sponsoring a day where they will have lots of wireless hot spots where you can surf the net for free (provided you have a device that can make a wireless connection). Sounds kind of interesting, but there are 2 problems: 1. Seems like a god way for someone to mount a DoS attack, 2. While surfing, people are not usually very social, so will it turn out to be a very quiet event?

New York

So we spent the long weekend in New York.

First, NEVER EVER EVER fly on US Airways. What a joke.
Yeah, most of the delays were weather related but the service, organization, facilities, etc are substandard at least.

I tried to save money by getting a ticket that went through Pittsburg on the way to LaGuardia (and through Philidalphia on the way back). While it cost half as much it was more than twice the pain.

Our taxi ride was an par with the flight service: horrible. He didn’t know where he was going even though I gave him the address written down and a map! At the end he implied that we should get out (in New York at 3am, not knowing where we were) and try to find the apartment ourselves. Luckily we were just next door to it.

We arrived late (bed at 3am) and awoke late. Saturday the weather was not so great, but didn’t rain on us much. The kindness of our Mundo Pequeno friends was great. They took time out of their days to show us around (the south end of) Manhattan.

Sunday the weather was extremely nice, very sunny but not too hot. Unfortunately this meant everyone was out and the line to see the Statue of Liberty was HUGE, so we didn’t go. But Central Park was very nice to have lunch in. The view from The Empire State Building was very nice, however the 1 hour line was aggravting.

Monday was another rainy day, not to mention how tired we were from the previous days, so we attempted to go to the Metropolitan Museum of Art but it was closed, so we went to the Guggenheim Museum. Their no camera policy is a bit annoying to say the least.

Fortunately the taxi ride to the airport was much smoother.

I do want to see the Statue of Liberty and our new friends in New York (Lilia, Monica, Aline, Leo and Amanda), but other than that, I don’t have much desire to return to the big apple.

Parabenis

Happy Birthday to Luciana.

My beautiful wife has turned 26.

Took her to Benihanas. While its not Koi (in Sao Paulo) it was acceptable by her high sushi/sashimi standards.

Poor Gato

Poor Gato is in pain after his surgery. He was neutered and has his claws removed.

I feel really bad when I see him try to walk and it hurts him to put any weight on his paws.

Hopefully he will recover quickly and be back to following us around to whatever room we go to.

Download Music

There was a comercial on TV for buymusic.com

I haven’t ordered anything, but it looks like the “PC” answer to Apple’s iTunes.

Paying $1 for one song does seem to be like a good deal, instead of paying $15 for a CD and you only like 1-3 songs on the CD.

If anyone has used this, let me know how it went.
