UPS – Battery Backup

APC is about to go on my ‘do not buy list’.
Previous UPS made the ‘hiss’ noise when the battery expands. Not necessarily APC’s fault.
Bought a new APC Back UPS XS 1300.
Less than 2 years, I am getting random reboots, events telling me the batteries are completely dead, then working normally. I’m not happy.

I submitted this to APC: #111031-000127 Low, Full, Low, Full Battery My APC Back UPS XS 1300 switches from Low battery (beeping) to full within seconds. The load is not changing. I'm positive it is less than 3 years old. What might be going on?

Response (Sahana) 10/31/2011 12:46 PM Dear Gabe, Thank you for contacting Schneider Electric. You have reached APC's customer care center email support on 10/30/2011 09:39 PM. I would be happy to assist you. Gabe, I understand that you are able to see the "low battery" and then "Full battery" indication irrespectively , on the lcd display of the unit. If I am correct, In order to confirm the issue? can you please try to do manual run time calibration on the unit? This is how you do run time calibration on the unit. Remove all the equipment connected to the UPS, connect a non critical load like a lamp, with a watt rating between 60-100 Watts. Without switching off the UPS, disconnect the UPS from the wall outlet and manually record the runtime through a watch. As such with 60-100 watts, should provide a runtime of at least 45-50 minutes: Please get back to me with the result of the above test. It helps me to resolve the issue as soon as possible. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me by responding to this incident. It would be my pleasure to ensure that your issue is quickly resolved! Solutions to most common customer problems can be found in our APC Knowledge Base which can be found at: http://nam-en.apc.com/cgi-bin/nam_en.cfg/php/enduser/std_alp.php?ISOCountryCode=us
