Lunch

I must say I am rather hooked/impressed with the Greek Gyro place here at the Ren Cen Food Court. I’ve had both the beef and chicken Gyro and they are excellent. The meat is seasoned, the sauce is good, the onions are fresh as is the bread. The tomatoes are fine, but nothing special.

However, I have yet to have “great” fries. Today’s we rather undercooked. Seems most “fast food” places are like that to get you your food quicker. I admit I probably like my fries more well done that most, but its fairly obvious that most of the time the fries are under cooked when they are almost white (instead of golden).

My previous favorite: “The Great Steak & Potatoe Company” is closed for remodeling. They had the WORST fries I’ve ever had in my life. But the steak sandwich/sub was pretty darn good.

My step-brother keeps asking me if I’ve gone out to eat while downtown. Unfortunately I’ve gone only once, to Hallas’ Cafe in Greektown. My project requires all of my time so I don’t have the oppertunity to go out. I usually eat at my desk. I am also one of the fastest eaters I know (I can eat a Hungry Howies medium pizza in 7 minutes). Even so, the project has high demands so I probably won’t be going out anytime soon.

Detroit Science Center

I love physics, but the Detroit Science Center was rather disappointing. I guess the part that bothers me is the stuff is all the same. I was there over 10-15 years ago, and all the stuff they have is almost identical. They updated the building but about 50% of the hands on things are probably older than me.

If I’m not mistaken, they didn’t have one thing about computers! You know that amazing invention that has revolutionized the world?

The Titanic IMAX show was incredibly bad. The sound effects added when a photograph was taken where horrible! The person holding the camera picked strange things to point it at, especially the close-ups of the crew’s faces.

However, there was this cool tornado simulator:

All in all it was not really worth the $7 adminission, nor was the IMax movie worth an additional $4!

Take me out to the ball game.

The Tigers won! I can’t believe I went to a Tiger’s game and they won! Usually when I go, actually for as long as I can remember, every Tigers (baseball) game I’ve been to, they have lost. Oh, some games they are ahead and magically lose at the end.

Today they started out behind, got ahead by 3 points, then managed to get tied, but amazingly the catcher with a horrible batting record hit a homerun to take a 6-5 lead which is how the game ended.

I still have yet to catch a foul ball. I don’t know how many games I’ve been too (I’d guess about 10-20). I’ve had (in my poor memory) only 1 chance and the ball hit below my reach (of course I didn’t have my glove with me that time). If someone knows of a study of where the highest percentage of foul balls are hit (in Comerica Park), let me know so I can buy seats specifically in that section to catch me a foul ball. Better than that would be to catch a homerun, but knowing the Tigers that doesn’t seem very likely (though they did have 2 or 3 today).

If there are any good pictures I assume my wife will post them.

In-laws, Music

Ahh! The in-laws will be here in a week! Just kidding. Luciana’s parents are cool. My Portuguese is still as horrible as it was when I left Brazil (July ’02). I think they have been taking some English classes so maybe we’ll be able to communicate better that way.

I still need to fix the bed in the guest bedroom to not fall when you lay on it (missing cross bars under the matress).

Seems the Detroit Music Hoedown is going on outside of my work (Ren Cen) in Hart Plaza. Its so loud I can almost feel it. GOD I HATE COUNTRY MUSIC!
