Money Saving Switches
I was thinking about how long the fan can stay on in the bathroom and wondering if there was a timer.
These look very good:

I didn’t bother to follow all of your links, way too many. LOL A link to follow
more links?I have a timed switch for my bathroom fan… On my own, I don’t think I’d have
chosen it. Didn’t even know sucha product existed until it was delivered with
the house. But I like it.Yes, it shuts off automatically after 15min and saves energy in that way.
But here’s why I really like it: Its got a 24H timer.
My house is energy star and doesn’t breathe the same way a older house will.
Dinner odors will hang in the house for DAYS if I don’t act on it. If I’m not
home for days, the air in the house feels stale when I walk in… And it
doesn’t take much to get rid of these odors. Clearly these aren’t
“overpowering” odors, its just the odor has nowhere to go without the fan. So
I’ve set the fan to run automatically for 15min in the morning and 15min in the
evening.If I had a unaware adult or child in the house, the timer would be worth A LOT
more to me. I could set the timer to run automatically when my kid(s) are doing
their morning routine(s). I don’t have to worry about a unaware adult leaving
the fan running all night because he had the squirts at 1am. That type of
stuff… I think with 2 kids and 2 adults, you’re gonna get your 45$ back if
you stay in the house.#2- you might want to check out if energy-savings programs exist. A lot of that
sort of stuff you can get cheaper through purchasing after a energy audit, for
example. A create-a-job program brought a lot of these home energy solution
companies into business. For 75$, they come to your home, do a blower door
test, seal leaks, perform a full energy audit, include recommendations and
coupons/discounts and information on other rebate and incentive programs. The
blower-door test alone is worth the 75$ fee.
I don’t know if/what all is available in your area… but my electric company,
Connecticut Light & Power offers all kinds of rebates and incentives. The
programs are incredibly diverse and even help tenants… So I think its foolish
when any CT resident buys anything “energy saving” if they’re not getting a
rebate or discount from our power company. (I think that’s why the pricing on
many of these items is also so high, these mfr’s and vendors KNOW there’s
gub’mint money funding the purchase of their products… A bathroom fan timer
shouldn’t be 45$… I can buy a 7-day timer to replace my thermostat for 30$
anywhere, and that’s a far more complicated piece of electronics)
