  • Taxing your Tip

We had a very good brunch at Coastal Kitchen, but because our party was 6 people, they automatically added in 18% tip. No biggy except they charged the tax after the tip.

  • Mac OS X

So I have a MacBook Pro from work. I\’m a noob to OS X (though I\’ve used unix for some time, cmd line).
I\’m sure that most of my hang-ups are related to the fact that I\’ve been using windows since 3.1, so my brain is used to think in a specific way.

    Someone suggested I read:
    http://www.apple.com/support/mac101/
Nothing terribly useful (that I didn\’t already figure out by just looking). Really for super noobs.

Gonna see how useful this is:
    http://www.apple.com/support/switch101/

    Obervations:
    1. Copy/Paste is very weird for me. I\’m very used to control+c, control+v, while on the mac its apple+c, apple+v. Very weird to change my habits.

  • Blackberry 8700c

I\’m trying out a Blackberry 8700c for work. My first time using a Blackberry device/OS.
Going to list some Pros/Cons and compare with my WM5 device (i-mate K-Jam).

    8700c   K-Jam
    Pro Con Comparison Pro Con
x Dialing speed – When I push buttons, the bb dials. Not so on the KJam, which has serious lag. x
x Alarm – the bb alarm options are very limited: daily alarm: on/off, time, snooze, active on weekend: yes/no. Where as the wm deive has 3 alarms, each with checkboxes for each day so you can pick and choose when you want each alarm to work. x
x Navigation: Touchscreen really kicks ass. The wheel on the BB is pretty nice too, but selecting text is damn annoying. x

  • Dying Hard Drive?

    What is this noise?
    clickingNoise.wav 177kb
I hope the clicking (near the end) is not a sign of my hard drive dying.

What is it with me and hard drives? Why do they die around me? What am I doing that causes them to keel over?

My machine usually has WoW running … nearly 24/7. Usually at the login screen.

Saturday, May 19th, I logged into WoW to play. After a few hours of play, I heard the clicking noise and my machine would pause for a few seconds, while clicking, and resume normally after the clicking.

Then, one clicking session did not end for 3 or so minutes and I shut off the machine. I haven’t turned it back on yet.

  • It’s a girl!

We’ll be having a girl: Julia Misura, in August.

The ultrasound tech said it’s a girl.

The doctor said it’s a girl.

  • Jawbone

    My latest Bluetooth headset Jawbone

This one is pretty darn good, with new noise cancelling tech.
My mom didn’t know I was driving my car (which is usually very obvious because my car makes a lot of noise at 60 mph).
Unfortunately, I’m told that I sound metalic or robotic.

It does a pretty good job of staying on ear. However, even with 4 different ear buds, none of them fit me “well”. Wearing the default/smallest one still causes my ear to hurt after 1+ hours.
The over-the-ear part is spring loaded so it helps hold it in place, but it is contoured for right/left so you can’t easily swap ears. You have to swap clips.

The button to answer is rather hard to push. The volume button is in a strange place, and it cycles through instead of having an up/down.

Seems my phone has developed an annoying buzz when I answer. I don’t hear it, but the people who call me say “ouch” when I pick up because its rather loud.

The charger uses a non-standard connection so it can’t be shared with other mini-usb devices.

  • Motorola H670

This headset was ok, but shortly after putting it on my ear, it would shake loose.
It would end up very far from my ear drum so I couldn’t hear very well.
    Returned this one.
