alt tab – Getting back the old alt-tab windows switching behavior in Windows 7?

Alt+tab in windows 7 has changed. Some for the better, some for the worse.

The part I don’t like is the order. I alt tab expecting the order to be most recently used and going back from that in order. But for some reason, that isn’t the case.

The aero peak isn’t a problem.

I followed the instructions here:

alt tab – Getting back the old alt-tab windows switching behavior in Windows 7? – Super User.

And it did a few things:

Now the alt+tab window itself looks old school (not what I wanted), disabled aero peak (not what I wanted) and fixed the order (what I wanted). Any way to just fix the order and leave the other features intack?

New Keyboard/Mouse

So I’m trying to decide what to get.

I like the Natural Elite but its PS2. It has a USB adapter, but its really hit or miss to work properly.

I liked the Wireless Optical Desktop Pro I had at AT&T, but my manager had the same one and I think they fought and I could not work! Missed characters (literally, 50% of what I typed would just not register), mouse would stop working. Had to replace it.

So I got Natural® Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 but that had a flaw as well: the space bar would not go down without serious force if you pushed it from the side, which you did ALL the time because its a split keyboard.

This Natural Ergonomic Desktop 7000 looks exactly like the 4000 keyboard, so I bet it has the same flaw.

So, I might go back to the Wireless Optical Desktop Pro.

I really don’t like Logitech, but maybe I’ll try their Cordless Desktop® Comfort Laser

Decisions, decisions.

I really should hit the store and try them, but no time. Never any time.

Vista: Dual Screens

Why the HECK can’t Vista remember the position of my dual screens?
I setup the laptop display on the right, and the external monitor on the left (like the phyiscal locations). I go away (or just lock the computer) and when I unlock it, they are back to being reversed! I have to go into the display settings and change it EVERY TIME! ANNOYING!

Or is this a driver issue?

MS Natural Ergo 4000

The wireless mouse/keyboard at work was WAY to flaky, so I got wired ones.

The MS Natural Ergo 4000 is very good, with one major flaw: space bar. When you have a split keyboard, your thumbs rest on the edges of the space bar. So when you click it, you’re no where near the middle. With this keyboard, pushing the edge (I seem to hit the space bar with my right thumb 99% of the time) is very difficult. It sticks and doesn’t work unless you really push it hard.

I miss my MS Natural Elite (I have at home). Has a strange home/end/del/insert/pageup/pagedown setup, and its native PS/2 instead of USB (there’s an adapter that seems to work fairly well), but other than that its great.

Mac UI: Tab Focus

I’ve been using this mac for a bit and its SUPER GOD DAMN annoying that you can’t tab into select boxes, or between dialog options (Save, Don’t Save, Cancel). Turns out there’s an option for it, not enabled by default:

I don’t think the 1 button mouse leaves Steve’s hand.

I’m so happy Hedon@ISCABBS posted that link.

Mac OS X

So I have a MacBook Pro from work. I\’m a noob to OS X (though I\’ve used unix for some time, cmd line).
I\’m sure that most of my hang-ups are related to the fact that I\’ve been using windows since 3.1, so my brain is used to think in a specific way.

Someone suggested I read:
http://www.apple.com/support/mac101/
Nothing terribly useful (that I didn\’t already figure out by just looking). Really for super noobs.

Gonna see how useful this is:
http://www.apple.com/support/switch101/

Obervations:
1. Copy/Paste is very weird for me. I\’m very used to control+c, control+v, while on the mac its apple+c, apple+v. Very weird to change my habits.
