My latest Bluetooth headset Jawbone
This one is pretty darn good, with new noise cancelling tech.
My mom didn’t know I was driving my car (which is usually very obvious because my car makes a lot of noise at 60 mph).
Unfortunately, I’m told that I sound metalic or robotic.
It does a pretty good job of staying on ear. However, even with 4 different ear buds, none of them fit me “well”. Wearing the default/smallest one still causes my ear to hurt after 1+ hours.
The over-the-ear part is spring loaded so it helps hold it in place, but it is contoured for right/left so you can’t easily swap ears. You have to swap clips.
The button to answer is rather hard to push. The volume button is in a strange place, and it cycles through instead of having an up/down.
Seems my phone has developed an annoying buzz when I answer. I don’t hear it, but the people who call me say “ouch” when I pick up because its rather loud.
The charger uses a non-standard connection so it can’t be shared with other mini-usb devices.
This headset was ok, but shortly after putting it on my ear, it would shake loose.
It would end up very far from my ear drum so I couldn’t hear very well.
Returned this one.
I can remember in college, trying to decide what I wanted to do.
Then I found the internet. Realized how huge it would be.
I wanted to do something that touched a lot of people, even if just a little bit.
Now, I will have the chance to influence one special life a lot: our child.
Baby Misura will be joining us in August ‘07.
Unix has had this for a long time, Microsoft added a powertoy, but its very sad.
I asked for some recommendations and tried out:
http://virtuawin.sourceforge.net
http://virt-dimension.sourceforge.net/
http://www.xdesk.info/
http://dexpot.de/
VirtuaWin was ok, but wouldn’t let me name the desktops. I didn’t try xdesk as I heard it was difficult. Microsoft’s version is limited to 4 windows.
Virtual Dimension is pretty nice, configurable, as many desktops as I want, I can name them. So far I’m impressed.
dexpot came recommended. Looks polished. I have to give it a try.
Dexpot annoys me because when I switch desktops, the windows change order on the task bar. I like to have Outlook first (left) and the rest I’m not so concerned about. When I switched back to the desktop with Outlook, it ended up on the right side.
It does have some very nice options that Virtual Dimension does: Window Catalog, which shows you all of your windows (mini-preview), and you can then click the one you want. Also has: Full-screen preview, which puts up all of the desktops so you can click the one you want (looks weird if you don’t have an appropriate number of desktops: 4, 9…something that fits evenly).
